Attendance Expectations
We want you to be successful. The first step is being here.
LOSS OF CREDIT
Each course has an attendance requirement. A student who fails to meet the attendance requirement will receive NO CREDIT for the course regardless of the grade earned. As displayed in the chart below, students are allotted a maximum of 16 absences for any full year class or 8 absences in any semester class. Upon reaching 17 absences for a full year class or 9 absences for a semester class, loss of credit will occur.

-
*Note: All absences whether EXCUSED/UNEXCUSED are calculated as a missed class. A note does NOT automatically result in a “non-chargeable” absence. This will be considered a verified absence but will still count towards an absence that can impact course credit. Administration strongly encourages notes from parent/guardian to verify absences for accurate student records. Parents may excuse up to 10 absences per year (5 per semester) by a parent note. Verification by a physician is required when the absences exceed ten total days per year. This will also support students and cases when there may be extenuating circumstances and a future SST Meeting can be scheduled.
Student Support Team (SST)
A Student Support Team (SST) Meeting will occur once the student has missed the appropriate number of school days or class periods (please refer to the chart). This will be a required meeting of administration, teachers, school counselor, student, and the parent/guardian to determine next steps and provide interventions to student support, school attendance, and academic achievement.
Notification of Loss of Credit
When a student is in danger of losing credit due to absences, the school will notify students and parents of a SST meeting. An appeals process may be initiated if the student has documentation and can show extenuating circumstances. At no time may a student stop attending any or all affected classes.
Restoration of Credit Process
Students who receive a Loss of Credit notification should communicate with their school counselor or Assistant Principal as soon as possible in order to initiate the appeal. This appeal must include all necessary documentation to show why absences occurred. Only significant, extenuating circumstances will be considered for credit restoration.
