Dear Parents, 

Welcome to Mountain View Elementary School! I am Melanie Tomlin Camden, school principal, and this is my fourth year serving the students, staff, and families in the Mountain View community. I had the privilege of attending Mountain View Elementary as a child, and I believe that the same set of strong values and pride taught to me as a child holds true in our school today. 

Since leaving Mountain View Elementary, I have continued my love of learning by graduating from Rockbridge High School and Roanoke College. I earned my teaching licensure from James Madison University and hold a Master of Education from Mary Baldwin College. My endorsement in School Administration comes from James Madison University. I have been serving in the field of education for twenty-five years, and I look forward to many more fulfilling years with Rockbridge County Public Schools. 

I plan to work alongside our teachers this year to encourage a school year filled with academic growth, relationship building, and social gains. Our staff is dedicated to developing instructional lessons that are engaging and data driven while balancing the social emotional needs of each student. Our “PAW Parents” serve as an important group within our school community and actively plan fun family events several times yearly. Together we establish a school climate that is welcoming, healthy and happy for students, staff and families. 

This year, we have adopted the following school theme: “MVES is a Garden: Ready, Set, Grow” This theme is visited each morning on announcements and each student is asked to “Start Growing!” at the conclusion of morning announcements. Our students work hard each day to strengthen their academic knowledge, make real life connections in learning, and collaborate with peers to complete projects. The mission to provide each student with the foundation necessary for him/her to reach their fullest potential as an individual and as a contributing member of society is a daily priority for our staff while hoping that the experiences at Mountain View Elementary will encourage our students to be lifelong learners.
