Special Education

Rockbridge County Schools are committed to providing all children with opportunities to benefit from public school education. Special education programs and services are available to county residents who have children with special needs and qualify for support. Services are designed to meet those needs and to provide educational opportunities in the general curriculum to the extent possible. 

Age of eligibility for services includes those students whose second birthday falls on or before September 30, and who have not reached their 22nd  birthday on or before September 30 (two to 21, inclusive).   
Services are provided to students in the following disability categories as defined by federal and state law: autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, developmental delay, emotional disability, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, or visual impairment including blindness.
